Cholo has faith in Jackson

Diego Simeone has faith Jackson Martinez will follow the path of Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa and prove prolific for Atletico Madrid.

The Coach was asked about the former Porto striker ahead of Benfica’s visit to Vicente Calderon for a Champions League encounter, and pushed back against comparisons to Atleti’s former forwards.

“It’s normal [that Martinez hasn’t settled in yet]. He [and Atleti’s other new signings] arrived two months ago. It’s not the same as Costa and Falcao,” Simeone said, AS reports.

“David Villa was already playing in Spain. When it comes to another competition players need time to adapt.

“We got goals from Falcao, Villa, Adrian and Fernando Torres, and Jackson will score too.”

Simeone was also asked about similarities between Angel Correa and Sergio Aguero, and dismissed that suggestion as well.

“They’re different. One is a pure striker, a number nine, and Angel breaks down the sides, moves between the lines,” he said of the pair.

“Correa growing and hopefully from his development the team has alternatives. I don’t see them as the same.

“Angel will play anywhere on the pitch, as a third striker on the outside, more through the middle if you need him. Kun is more at the end of the move.”
