‘Casillas treatment was strange’

Malmo captain Markus Rosenberg believes the way the Real Madrid fans treated former skipper Iker Casillas was ‘strange.’

Rosenberg will lead out Malmo against Madrid on Wednesday in the second round of Champions League games and has spoken to AS in advance of the fixture.

It was pointed out to Rosenberg that the times he scored against Madrid – for Werder Bremen and Racing Santander – had Casillas in goal.

“That’s true. Here in Sweden we found it very strange that some Madrid fans turned on him,” the striker admitted.

“Such a thing has never happened here. In Sweden, if you’re a player with so much history with your club, the public is always with you.”

Keylor Navas is expected to take the gloves this time, with Kiko Casilla in reserve, and Rosenberg praised Casillas’ replacement.

“I’ve watched him from what he did with Costa Rica [at the World Cup in Brazil]. He’s a great goalkeeper, world class.”
