Sergio Gonzalez accused his Espanyol team of lacking fight during Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga.
Alvaro Gonzalez’s own goal in the early stages signalled the start of a miserable afternoon for Los Periquitos as Lucas Perez proceeded to put them out of sight with two more strikes before the 47th minute.
“The whole team played at a lower gear [than Depor],” he said after the game.
“Depor were better than us as they played at a higher gear.
“The own goal put us on the back foot and their second goal killed us from a lack of concentration.
“We had our best spell just before the second-half, and we planned to take control of the second half, but we conceded on the 47th minute and it was game over.
“The psychological aspect [of the defeat] won’t do much damage to the team.
“We weren’t able to compete [with Depor], and they took advantage of [our inability].
“We must now turn the page and think about Sporting [Gijon].”
