Neymar: Ballon d’Or next!

Barcelona forward Neymar says he hopes 2015 will be the year he finally breaks into contention for the FIFA Ballon d’Or.

The Brazilian has yet to rival Cristiano Ronaldo and teammate Lionel Messi for the award, with a top-three place on the podium continuing to evade him, but he believes he is inching ever closer towards ending the pair’s duopoly.

“I want to improve with each season and be among the three finalists for the Ballon d’Or. I hope this is the year,” he told ESPN Brasil.

“I hope this is a dream year. I want to continue my work with my teammates and keep winning trophies.

“People know that [Lionel Messi] is a world star, and when he’s done [with Barca], I’ll be ready [to replace his goal threat].

“[On Rafinha’s injury], he was in the prime of his career. I hope he recovers as soon as possible and becomes stronger for it.”
