Angel Di Maria has praised Argentina teammate Lionel Messi, commending the Barcelona forward’s off-field character as much as his on-field ability.
Di Maria and Messi are regulars with their national team and the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder explained that Messi’s success is as much down to his personality and way of approaching the game as anything else.
“There are no words to describe Leo. The only thing I can say, leaving trophies and football aside, is that he is a great person and a great friend,” he told UEFA’s official website.
“And I believe that everything he's achieved, he's achieved because he enjoys it – playing the way he likes to, and showing the way he is.
“The way he is on the pitch is how he is off the pitch: a calm guy, a very good person. And he has very much deserved everything he has won.”
