Cholo happy with Atleti competition

Diego Simeone is happy to have competition for places in the Atletico Madrid attack but will leave it late to decide the team to play Getafe.

Fernando Torres and Angel Correa came off the bench to decide the weekend trip to Eibar and the Coach was asked if there would be changes for Tuesday’s game.

“I can’t discuss so many games now. We live in the present. We’re still analysing Saturday’s game. We’ve had a regenerative training session and we’ll decide at lunch on match day,” AS quotes Simeone as telling the Press.

“Clearly, since Correa came on and scored, we were right to make the change. Jackson Martinez played against Barcelona, didn’t score and we weren’t right.

“We know our responsibilities. I’m happy with the internal competition and the enthusiasm the players have. The quality of minutes is worth more than the quantity.

“I hope they can give us options. It’s difficult having a team with so many important players. Hopefully our options lead us to doing the right things.

“Torres is doing well. He came to pre-season very prepared and is doing important work. You have to be more demanding with him and we are more demanding according to a player’s level.

“Last year he gave a lot. He is competing very well and giving us alternatives in attack and that is what we need.”
