Ricky Kaka insists he has no regrets about his time at Real Madrid, describing it as “an important period in my life”.
The midfielder arrived for €68.5m from Milan in the summer of 2009 as the first ‘Galactico’ of Florentino Perez’s second term as President but saw his spell plagued by fitness problems and a subsequent failure to establish himself as a first-team regular.
Nonetheless, the Brazilian – who now plays for Orlando City in MLS – countered the negative perceptions by claiming that he had “fond memories” and “lived through some great experiences” at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“I really do [have fond memories of my time at Madrid],” he told Marca.
“I always say my time at Real Madrid was positive and that it was an important period in my life.
“They’ve started the new season at a very high level. Madrid are a great team, as always, and habe started very strongly under the new Coach. I hope they do very well.
“I was there for four years and lived through some great experiences, both professionally and personally.
“If I was to put everything [from my time at Madrid] on a weighing scale, it’d tip on the ‘good’ side.
“I always prefer to focus on the good side of things. I won a League, Supercopa and Copa del Rey.”
