Toni Freixa has claimed that Barcelona should be able to register either Arda Turan or Aleix Vidal following Rafinha’s season-ending injury.
Arda and Vidal were signed by La Blaugrana in the summer but are not eligible for selection until January due to the club’s FIFA-imposed transfer embargo.
Nonetheless, Barca’s former director and Presidential candidate insists the ban, which spanned two transfer windows, technically ended on September 1.
“FIFA sanctioned Barca for two transfer windows, last winter and this summer, and they’ve since passed,” he told Sport.
“FIFA, in this case, would have nothing to say [if Barca were to ask for a permit under Article 124 of the Spanish Football Federation’s law book] because the sanction has ended.
“Barca could enrol either Aleix Vidal or Arda Turan, but they’re afraid to face FIFA because there are still unresolved cases relating to minors.”
Article 124 refers to a request from a club under the RFEF’s jurisdiction to replace a long-term injury victim with another player who is unregistered.
