Marcelino rejects the suggestion that Villarreal are favourites to win the Europa League tie with Rapid Vienna simply because they’re from a stronger League.
The sides meet on Thursday night in Austria in the first round of group games in the competition, with Marcelino predicting a challenging encounter.
“I think regardless of where the teams come from, who wins will be who has a better game,” the trainer told a Press conference, Marca reports.
“That we come from one of the best Leagues in Europe doesn’t make us favourites. We’re playing a good team, who are at home, and will be super-motivated and won’t make anything easy.
“They eliminated Ajax and nearly eliminated Shakhtar Donetsk from the Champions League. They use quick attacks, counter well and we will have to be very focused and play a great game if we want a good result.
“The next opponent is always the most difficult. You never know which team will be the most complicated. It’s only seen on the pitch.
“It’s a very attractive game. We want to play it and we’re motivated to do something important.”
