Andre Gomes believes Valencia can still get out of the Champions League group stages despite losing the opener at home to Zenit St Petersburg.
Midfielder Gomes played and scored as Los Che lost 3-2 to the Russians, falling two goals behind then recovering to 2-2, only for Axel Witsel to decide the tie late on.
“It’s not what we expected. We fought until the end but didn’t get anything. There are more games to make up for what happened,” Gomes said, AS reports.
“The Coach makes the decisions. We knew we had to go at them. Those on the pitch were looking for a solution for the team.
“We were strong but these things happen. We had to take risks. We wanted to win, a draw wasn’t worth anything to us. And in an act of carelessness, they get a goal.”
