Beto: I have to show my strength

Sevilla goalkeeper Beto isn’t daunted by his latest injury blow. ‘I have to show what I’m made of.’

The Portuguese’s knee injury saw Sevilla take him out of their Champions League squad because he’s not expected to be fit for at least a month, but he could be restored if he’s fit in time.

“I have to show what I’m made of. Nothing in life has been handed to me. I’m used to fighting for what I want,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’m devastated, that’s clear, but I’m a fighter and I don’t accept being told something and that we have to get on with it.

“I’m used to making my own destiny and once again I can show this. I’m a fighter without a doubt and in a few weeks I’ll be back even stronger

“Now I’m focused on my recovery and if all goes well I’ll be back for the group stage of the Champions League. The team started with a victory and showed that they can play a part in an important competition.

“I won’t forget the support of my teammates and the love I feel for the fans who have encouraged me. It’s worth fighting for, and my teammates and the club officials who have been tireless in their support.

“That love is important for me being in the right place and with the right people.”
