Beto facing six weeks out

Sevilla goalkeeper Beto has suffered a knee ligament injury and is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines as a result.

AS reports the injury and the news that Los Rojiblancos have removed Beto from their Champions League squad and replaced him with B team goalkeeper David Soria.

UEFA rules allow for the registration of a goalkeeper not on the A or B list of players in the case of long-term injury to a previously-registered goalkeeper.

Soria wasn’t on the B list because he didn’t qualify for a place, having not been at the club for the required three years or more, AS note.

The same situation occurred last season, when Beto was injured and taken out of the club’s successful Europa League squad.

Beto’s injury this time occurred late in the 1-1 draw at Levante and has been described by the club as a sprained medial collateral ligament.
