Isco targets more goals

Isco admits he needs to score more goals but says overall he is happy with his contribution at Real Madrid.

Coach Rafa Benitez was asked what the midfielder needs to do to improve and he responded by citing his goal tally and, speaking after the Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk, Isco agreed.

“I know I have to improve on that and score more goals, but it’s not something that worries me. I’m sure I’ll get the chance in the next games,” he said, AS reports.

“I’m very happy here. Against Espanyol perhaps I wasn’t at my best because it was 4-0 very quickly, but I felt good [against Shakhtar].

“This is Madrid and no one hands you anything. I work so I’m 100% and I can’t complain about the minutes I’m getting. I’m also happy with the form of the team, which has been very good.

“The truth is I’m happy because I have more than 100 appearances for the team.

“The Coach asks me to help defend the lines in a 4-4-2 and that I attack as I do.”

Regarding the win over the Ukrainians, Isco lamented the injury to Gareth Bale, and looked ahead to facing Paris Saint-Germain in the competition.

“The team is responding well. We’re very effective in attack and we’re doing well in defence,” he considered.

“The only negatives were the injuries. I’m concerned for Bale and for everyone else. There’s been no luck in that aspect. Let’s hope it’s as minor as it can be.”
