Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder believes Atletico Madrid are among the favourites to win the Champions League.
The former Real Madrid playmaker comes up against Atleti in the first round of group games as Diego Simeone’s side goes to Istanbul, and spoke at a Press conference prior to the fixture.
“We need a good start despite not starting well in the League,” he said, according to Marca.
“We’re a great team and we’ll be competitive. Last season didn’t start very well but we ended up being a good team.
“Atletico are a very tough opponent. They’ve grown a lot in recent years. Simeone is doing a great job, I respect him a lot, and it will be very difficult.
“They’re one of the strongest teams in the Champions League, not just in our group. They’re a candidate for the trophy.
“Atletico are favourites for the match, obviously, but we’re at home, where there is always a good atmosphere, and we always do well.”
