Emery values Sanchez Pizjuan

Unai Emery believes the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan crowd will be crucial to Sevilla in the Champions League but wants focus on La Liga too.

Sevilla return to the competition on Tuesday, hosting Borussia Monchengladbach, after a six-year absence, and Emery is expecting a rousing reception.

“We’re playing in our temple, a football game that is more than that,” he said, AS reports.

“The motivation and excitement of playing at home against such great opponents is huge. But we can’t put the League on the back burner.

“Playing in this competition was my dream when I got here. I renewed my contract to help the team grow further. We don’t want this to be a fleeting step.

“The Champions League is a good, attractive, competitive place and it’s difficult. It will ask a lot of us.

“In the two away games in the League we’ve had enough chances to get three points. It was the same in my first campaign. You always need to adjust.”

Emery added regarding the goalkeeping situation at the club following Beto’s injury that it was another chance for Sergio Rico to confirm his place.

“You’re always thinking about injuries but you don’t want them. Beto was injured last season and Sergio stepped in,” Emery recalled.

“He can prove himself again now. He’s excited by the chance, and the door is open for him.”
