Emery: The fans helped Sevilla

Unai Emery believes the passionate Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan support helped Sevilla to victory in their first Champions League game of the season.

Sevilla saw off Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 with two penalties, one each for Kevin Gameiro, who also missed another spot kick, and Ever Banega, and a late goal from Yevhen Konoplyanka.

“We’re pleased with the result and what’s achieved. We’ve been consistent and we continue to grow. We have a trademark, pressuring the opponent, wanting the ball,” Emery said, ABC de Sevilla reports.

“We also enjoyed being in our stadium, the red and white atmosphere, which helped.

“We’ve just started and this gives us the confidence to keep going. Winning the first home game is important.

“Juventus and Manchester City are favourites. It’s even with us and Gladbach. We’ll go game by game and not look further.”
