Javier Mascherano has explained Barcelona’s tactical plan and how it is designed to give Lionel Messi as much freedom as possible.
Mascherano and Messi are currently with the Argentina national team in the United States for the international break, and Masche has spoken to ESPN, his comments picked up by AS.
“Barcelona is shaped in a way so that Leo is free to start in one place and end in another,” he acknowledged.
“We also have players such as Jordi Alba and Neymar on the other side for give us depth.
“You have to do this when you have a player like Messi as he can’t be pigeonholed in one place. You give him the tools to be at his best.
“Messi has become the complete player but if we can use him in the final metres then we’ll get more of a benefit. Football is knowing your teammates.”
