Spain move England friendly to Alicante

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced that the venue of Spain's November friendly against England has been moved from Madrid to Alicante.

It is understood that the boos directed at Gerard Pique in La Roja's matches since June proved the final straw for the governing body, the defender inciting provocations from Real Madrid fans following his derogatory remarks about Los Blancos during Barcelona's treble celebrations at the end of last season and after the UEFA Super Cup in August.

However, the relationship between the RFEF and Madrid remains strained from the latter's decision to pull out of hosting the 2015 Copa del Rey final once it emerged that Barca would face Athletic Bilbao.

The date of the match has also been pushed back by a day from November 12 to November 13.

The last international game hosted at Rico Perez in Alicante was Spain's 3-1 win against Scotland in October 2012 [pictured].
