Gabi has stressed the importance of Atletico Madrid kicking off their upcoming Champions League campaign on the right foot.
Los Colchoneros were paired with Benfica, Galatasaray and Astana in Group C on Thursday, the sides all winning their respective Leagues last season, and the captain believes “there's little room for error” after reflecting on a difficult experience at the same stage in 2014-15.
“It's a tight group as they're all champions in their respective Leagues,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.
“There's little room for error. Last season, we lost our first game and it made the rest of the group stage tough for us
“Benfica are experienced and probably the most powerful of the three teams in our group.
“Galatasaray have players who have won major trophies and we know about the atmosphere there.
“Astana will surely want their fans to remember their first participation [in this competition], so they'll also make life difficult for us.”
