Andres Iniesta says Barcelona “have to believe” they can turn the Supercopa around in their favour following Friday’s 4-0 first-leg defeat to Athletic Bilbao.
The newly-appointed captain was unable to inspire a change in the Catalans’ fortunes at San Mames, having replaced Rafinha early in the second half, but he issued a rallying cry to his teammates after the match.
“We have to believe we can [turn the tie around],” he told reporters.
“The defeat is huge but not impossible [to come back from]. We have to believe.
“We made mistakes, which cost us very much, and the result has made everything very difficult for us, but we’ll try to reverse [the result] in order to keep the trophy at home.
“We didn’t play well and are very hurt by this defeat, but we must continue believing [we can turn things around], even if the challenge is enormous.”
