Benfica have announced the signing of striker Raul Jimenez from Atletico Madrid on a five-year contract.
However, Los Colchoneros are understood to have inserted a future repurchase option in the event that the Mexico international impresses sufficiently at Estadio da Luz.
Although details of the fee remain undisclosed, Benfica are believed to have paid €9m for 50 percent of the player’s ownership, with super-agent Jorge Mendes retaining the other half.
“I’ve heard many good things about the team,” Jimenez, who scored just one goal for Atleti in his one and only Atleti campaign, told Benfica’s official TV channel.
“[Benfica] are a big club in Portugal. I spoke to [former Benfica and current Atleti players] Tiago [Mendes], [Guillermo] Siqueira and Jan Oblak about them.”
