‘Sevilla better prepared than 2014’

Unai Emery believes this year’s UEFA Super Cup arrives a better time for Sevilla than last year’s, when they were beaten by Real Madrid.

The Europa League winners this time face Barcelona and Emery described the fixture, in Georgia on August 11, as a reward for their success in 2014-15.

“The Super Cup comes in the middle of preparing for the season. We’ve prepared for the year and we’re adjusted for a big game,” the Coach said, AS reports.

“Last year, Alberto Moreno was sold the day before, Kevin Gameiro was injured, Carlos Bacca only returned to training a week before.

“This year has been different. For example, Ever Banega, who was last to arrive last year, this year came in a good condition. I think we’re better prepared than last year.

“Playing the Super Cup is a continuation of what was achieved last year and that was a dream. Last season is over and now we start a new one.

“We’ve played a few finals and the opportunity we have demands we work to play our best and win.

“This week we’ve focused only on Barcelona. There’s a base in the squad from last season who know the mechanisms.

“I’m happy with the squad as it is. I think we can compete in three competitions effectively. But in the market we’re always out there, we can always lose a player, or have someone to go to if we consider it a good opportunity to improve.

“We need resources in attack. I think three forwards is ideal but we’ll see and decide in a few weeks.”
