Diego Godin has reportedly rejected a substantial contract from Manchester City, choosing to stay with Atletico Madrid.
Marca claims Godin, said to be on the Premier League team’s agenda, has turned down a deal worth €6.5m a year, a significant increase on his Atleti terms.
City would have paid €40m for the Uruguay international but Godin instead prefers to stay at Vicente Calderon and will be offered a contract extension, and a pay rise as well.
Godin’s new Atletico deal would nevertheless be lower than he would have been paid by City, but he is said to appreciate Atletico’s efforts to convince him to remain.
