Laporta slams Bartomeu over UEFA fine

Joan Laporta has slammed Josep Maria Bartomeu for accepting Barcelona’s punishment in relation to pro-Catalan flags during the Champions League final.

The 52-year-old, who lost out to Bartomeu in the club’s presidential elections on July 18, has also promised to “continue fighting” in order to prevent La Blaugrana “from being led by a prosecuted President”.

“We will not surrender to a board who comply with a punishment for waving the estelada in Berlin,” he said in a video posted on his official Facebook account after Barca were fined €30,000 for their’ fans show of estelada flags in Berlin last month.

“I will continue fighting to prevent Barcelona from being led by a prosecuted President.

“Barcelona have a prosecuted President for the first time in their history because of Bartomeu, and I will continue fighting for the club to ensure they are longer sold to Qatar.

“I very much welcome the result we obtained in the elections, especially when we had to deal with all the factors [against us].

“The current club model is unsustainable on sporting, social and economic levels.

“Your vote supported a philosophy of [Johan] Cruyff, [La] Masia, Catalonia, Unicef and a sports club and professional organisation, one that would have made the entity work properly.

“I said on the day of the elections, ‘I will not give up and will keep fighting for Barcelona to belong to everyone, with the model that many Barcelonistas want’.”
