Bartomeu expects Pedro stay

Josep Maria Bartomeu has reiterated that he expects Pedro Rodriguez to stay at Barcelona, despite heavy speculation linking the forward with Manchester United.

The 27-year-old is being tipped to join the Red Devils before September 1 after accepting defeat in his bid to displace one of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, but the President insists La Blaugrana’s squad for next season is “complete”.

“For most players, playing for Barca is a dream,” he told ESPN.

“Aleix Vidal was a youth player at the club and Arda Turan wanted to come. Not playing until January isn’t a problem [for them].

“Our [2015-16] squad is this one. It’s already complete.

“It’s the squad that our Coach wanted. It’s done, finished. We don’t expect any of our players to leave.

“I have read many things about the departure of Pedro, but no-one has officially contacted the club. The squad is complete.

“Last season, we won three trophies and this season we can win six. It’s a dream season.

“Hopefully we can start thinking about winning six major trophies every season.

“That takes a competitive team, a winning team, and with the signings we’ve made, we have the squad capable of winning everything.

“[Lionel] Messi is very immersed. Messi’s eager to continue making history for this club.

“He’s the best player in the history of world football and this club. Messi and his teammates have the challenge of winning six trophies ahead of them.

“This challenge is exciting for everyone, not just for the players but fans around the world.

“In the United States, we noticed that everyone’s been talking about six trophies, which we aspire to.”
