Official: Atleti sign Jackson

Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of striker Jackson Martinez from Porto for a reported €35m.

The Colombia international has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Los Colchoneros and effectively replaces Mario Mandzukic, who left for Juventus earlier in the summer.

Sporting director Jose Luis Caminero commented of Atleti’s newest recruit: “We’re very pleased with the signing because Jackson Martinez is an extraordinary striker, capable of finishing off moves in the box quickly.

“Thanks to his size, he heads the ball very well and can use both feet interchangeably when finishing.

“I’m sure that he will greatly enhance the potential of our squad and contribute a lot to the group.

“We’re delighted with his move because he has experience of competing at the highest level with Porto, who have played in many important competitions like the Champions League.”

Jackson, 28, joined Porto in 2012 as a belated replacement for countryman Radamel Falcao and scored 92 goals in 133 appearances for the club.
