New Boca Juniors signing Carlos Tevez has revealed that Diego Simeone wanted to take him to Atletico Madrid.
The 31-year-old has returned to Argentina to rejoin the club where he began his career, having enjoyed spells at Juventus, Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham during his stay in Europe.
However, speaking at the Press conference to officially announce his return to his homeland, the forward admitted that compatriot Simeone made a last ditch effort to persuade him to head to La Liga instead.
“Simeone called me to go to Atletico Madrid,” Tevez told reporters. “I thank him, but I wanted to return home.”
