Prospective Barcelona CEO Joan Oliver has warned that the cost of Neymar’s transfer to Camp Nou could snowball to €222m.
The Brazilian’s move from Santos to Barca in the summer of 2013 remains shrouded in controversy, with the true fee later being revealed as €86.2m, before it emerged that former Presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu would stand trial on charges of tax fraud.
“I think when you look at [Barca’s] financial outlook for the coming years, it leaves a question mark – how much the final price of Neymar will be,” Oliver said during a presentation of Barca’s economic plans under Laporta.
“The cost so far is €100m and court proceedings may add a further €122m in the way of financial liabilities. Neymar could end up costing €222m.”
