Barbosa in, Gomez out at Villarreal

Villarreal have announced the return of goalkeeper Mariano Barbosa and departure of Moi Gomez to Getafe on a season-long loan.

Barbosa joins on a free transfer after being released by Sevilla and will compete with Paris Saint-Germain loanee Alphonse Areola for goalkeeping duties in absence of the seriously-injured Sergio Asenjo.

The 30-year-old played 28 games for Villarreal between 2005 and 2007, before representing Recreativo de Huelva, Estudiantes, River Plate, Atlas and Las Palmas, spending four years at the latter.

He moved to Sevilla last summer as a deputy for No 1 for Beto, but an injury to the Portuguese and the emergence of Sergio Rico saw him fall to third choice in Unai Emery’s pecking order.

Gomez, meanwhile, will spend 2015-16 at Coliseum Alfonso Perez after scoring twice in just 19 appearances for the Yellow Submarine last season.

However, El Geta will not be able to purchase the forward, a semi-finalist with Spain’s Under-19 team at the 2013 European U19 Championship, at the end of the loan deal.
