Spaniard Mikel Arteta has signed a new one-year contract with Arsenal, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
The 33-year-old has been out of action since November through long-term injury, but the former Everton man will extend his stay in north London by at least one more season.
“He will stay with us for another year because he has extended his contract,” Wenger said of his club captain.
“He is one of the leaders of the club, because of that he is captain of the team. We hope he contributes a lot more than last season, now that his injuries have subsided.”
