Geronimo Rulli has revealed that “I gave my word” to Real Sociedad that he would stay for another season.
The goalkeeper finally completed his return to Anoeta on Sunday following a drawn-out negotiation process, in which his parent club Deportivo Maldonado reportedly prioritised Valencia, but he insists he was always intent on honouring his commitment to the Basques.
“Before I went to Argentina, I gave [Real Sociedad] my word [that I’d stay], and I think my word is worth more than any piece of paper, so that was decisive,” he told La Real’s official website.
“I’m very happy that everything ended and unfolded in the best way possible.
“We want to improve as a team and regain the status [of challenging for Europe] that we lost last season.”
