Montoya eyeing Serie A glory

Martin Montoya says Inter are targeting Serie A glory next season after completing his conditional two-year loan from Barcelona.

The right-back has joined the Nerazzurri on an initial season-long loan, with the option of a second year if he reaches a certain number of appearances and an €8m permanent deal in 2017.

“I’m eager to be here, and I have great ambition and enthusiasm to be successful at this great club,” he is quoted as saying by Marca.

“We’re hoping to become League champions and be in the Champions League next year.

“Inter put their faith in me from the beginning. I was very excited to play and feel like a footballer again.

“Playing is the most important thing for me, and both [Coach Roberto Mancini] and [assistant] Sylvinho convinced me.

“I played with Mauro [Icardi] once, if I’m not mistaken, against Mallorca, which was a game we won.

“I remember I scored a goal, precisely because I played on the right wing rather than at full-back and made the score 1-0.

“Icardi is a very good person. I’ve trained very little with him so far, but I saw him to be a very good person at La Masia, and he has progressed a lot as a footballer and is at a very good level.”
