The agent of Jackson Martinez has confirmed the Porto striker will join Atletico Madrid, not Milan. “He can’t be in two places at once.”
Milan had trumpeted Martinez’s arrival but Luiz Henrique Pompeo said on Tuesday evening that an agreement had been reached with Los Colchoneros for a four-year contract. Atleti will pay Porto €35m, the amount stipulated in the player’s contract.
“The deal has been closed today. We want to thank Milan, who tried until the end. We feel very honoured, but he can’t be in two places at once,” Pompeo is quoted as saying.
“Atletico is a big club and have done a lot of important things in their League and in Europe. Jackson goes there wanting to do great things and to do his best to make Atleti even greater, that is his dream.
“He is very happy and very sure of his decision. Cholo Simeone is a winning Coach.”
AS add that the transfer will be official after the Copa America, at which Martinez is competing with Colombia, and when the two clubs formally register the agreement.
