James ‘told Neymar to be calm’

James Rodriguez has revealed what he said to Neymar as Colombia’s Copa America win over Brazil ended in the Barcelona forward seeing red.

Neymar and Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca were dismissed for their part in a mass brawl after the final whistle blew on the Selecao’s 1-0 defeat, former Granada defender Jeison Murillo scoring the only goal to give Colombia their first win over Brazil in 24 years.

Referee Enrique Osses had booked Neymar before half time and dismissed the Brazil captain after the match had ended as a scuffle broke out between the teams.

Bacca was shown a straight red card and both players will be unavailable for the final group games, Neymar missing Brazil’s must-win against Peru.

James was seen with Neymar as the players left the pitch and was asked by reporters what he said to his Clasico rival.

“I told Neymar to be calm and adhere to the talent God gave him,” AS quotes the Real Madrid midfielder saying.

“I went through the same feeling when we lost to Venezuela. I was very angry that day.

“I think our plan worked perfectly. Everyone brings good things. Everyone made the best of their talent and we have made history. We have to be happy.”
