Raul: I’ll be back one day

Raul Gonzalez has confirmed that he will return to Real Madrid one day but refused to reveal which role he has in mind.

The legendary forward, who was crowned spring champion of the North American second tier with New York Cosmos over the weekend, also had praise for his goalscoring rival Cristiano Ronaldo, Los Blancos’ new Coach Rafa Benitez and embattled goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

“Cristiano is amazing for what he’s achieved in just six years, scoring an average of over 50 goals a season, when it was hard enough for me to score 20,” he told Marca.

“I hope he continues scoring a lot of goals for a long time and helps the team win more titles.

“The club have to make decisions, which need to be backed. We must thank the great work that [Carlo] Ancelotti did, but now we’re all very excited about a new era with a new Coach.

“[Rafa Benitez] is a very passionate, methodical Coach, who likes to have his entire squad ready to play.

“I’m sure he’ll create a very competitive and winning team, which is what all Madridistas want.

“[Iker Casillas] is a legend of the Spanish national team and Real Madrid. Iker has always demonstrated professionalism and commitment to Madrid. No-one can doubt him.

“I’ll return to Real Madrid someday because the club are my home and where I enjoyed the biggest triumphs of my career.”
