Kovacic opens door to Barca?

Mateo Kovacic admits “you never know in football” as links between the Inter midfielder and Barcelona continue to circulate.

The Croatian starlet extended his contract until 2019 midway through last season but struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular under Roberto Mancini.

Barca sporting director Ariedo Braida also confessed his admiration for the 21-year-old, who has now cast doubt on his long-term future with the Nerazzurri.

“I signed on with Inter until 2019, but you never know in football,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“At the moment, I’m 100 percent an Inter player.”

Kovacic’s international Coach Niko Kovac recently endorsed the move, saying: “I don’t know if he’ll leave Inter, but if he was to play for a big team [like Barca] then I’d be very happy for him.”

Aleix Vidal was unveiled as Barca’s first summer signing on Monday, but any new arrivals cannot play until January, as per the rules of the club’s FIFA-imposed transfer ban.
