Louis Van Gaal is said to feel he will have too many wide players if Gaitain completes a €25m transfer to Old Trafford and wants to off-load Di Maria, a €70m signing a year ago, to Paris Saint-Germain.
Di Maria appears happy to stay at United and fight for a place, however, which could pave the way for Gaitain’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to do a deal with Valencia – or Atletico Madrid, who are also interested.
