Atletico to target Spurs winger?

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is weighing up a bid for Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela should they lose Antoine Griezmann this summer.

Griezmann has been in terrific form for Los Colchoneros this season, plundering 22 goals in 36 La Liga appearances, and has been a reported target for both Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

As a result, says the London Evening Standard, Simeone is lining up potential replacements and is keen on Argentina international Lamela after having the player under his wing at River Plate during the 2007-08 season.

Lamela, 23, has scored just twice in 38 Premier League appearances for Spurs since a €30m move from Roma in August 2013 and has failed to make his mark at White Hart Lane, having previously been touted as one of South America’s brightest young talents.

However, a move to Atletico could appeal to Lamela, who may see it as a chance to get his career back on track under his former boss.
