Jemez heading for Rayo exit

Paco Jemez has confessed that he is “increasingly likely” to leave Rayo Vallecano at the end of the season ahead of Sunday’s trip to Cordoba in La Liga.

The Coach, who has been heavily linked with Newcastle United in recent weeks, has established Los Vallecanos in the top tier since taking charge three years ago, and he believes his time at the club may be drawing to a close, with his contract set to expire.

“I think it’s time to realise that maybe [contract] negotiations aren’t going anywhere,” he began in an interview with Marca.

“It’s funny because we’ve reached an economic agreement, but there are other factors that are also of value.

“If the President and the club don’t outline a proposition [to move forward], I don’t think I’ll be Rayo Coach next year.

“When the season ends, my agent will tell me what options I have.

“If Rayo decide to rethink some things that I don’t agree with then there’s still the possibility that I’ll stay, but that possibility is becoming increasingly distant.

“A Coach can’t often choose where to go. Some do, but I don’t make any decisions in the short term. I have to choose the best option.

“[It feels like] we’ve won everything in my three years. We’ve improved greatly in all aspects.

“There are many people working hard to increase the club’s size, but without losing the characteristics that make Rayo what they are.

“It has been three intense years in which we’ve achieved a lot and everything went well, and that’s very difficult to achieve.

“As a professional I’ve learned a lot. I’m much better now than when I arrived and I owe it to Rayo.

“Although I’ve yet to leave, which is taking more shape by the day, I’m forever grateful to all people who have given me the opportunity to be here and show what I could bring to this project.

“I hope to continue progressing [as a Coach] and achieving important objectives for the fans.”
