La Liga strike suspended

The proposed La Liga strike for this weekend that would have halted Spanish football has been suspended, according to Sky Sports.

A high court judge ruled on Thursday morning that the proposed stoppage from May 16 could not go ahead and as a result all scheduled games will now take place.

The decision to strike has centred on a disagreement in the way in which money from the new television rights deal is due to be distributed, with an earlier meeting between the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) and the Spanish League (LFP) having failed to come to an agreement.

The National Court said in its ruling that allowing the strike to go ahead would "prevent the conclusion of the championship" and would "cause a serious organisational disorder".
