Neymar ‘won’t forget’ Messi gesture

Neymar has admitted that he will “never forget” Lionel Messi’s decision to pass up a hat-trick in Barcelona’s 8-0 victory over Cordoba last weekend.

The former Santos star was presented with the chance to score La Blaugrana’s seventh from the penalty spot by the Argentine at Nuevo Arcangel, and he used a promotional event on Thursday to reiterate his admiration for the No 10.

“My idol was always Robinho and other players. I used to try incorporating their best traits into my own game. Now I’m playing with great players,” he remarked.

“We had a great game [against Bayern Munich], it was great for football lovers.

“We loved the fans’ support. We played very well and things went well. We have 90 minutes to reach our dream. We were dealt tough opponents in Bayern and we beat them.

“The objective is to win the treble. Since the beginning of the season, it’s been our goal and we’re getting closer to it.

“On Saturday, we have a League match and we want to win the League.

“I’ll never forget [Lionel] Messi’s gesture. He could have scored a hat-trick but let me score instead.

“He’s the best in the world and I’m very grateful. Every day I learn from Messi and my teammates. I learn from gestures like this.

“[Reaching the final in Berlin] will be difficult. There are four teams left, although we’re a little ahead.

“Juventus, [Real] Madrid and Bayern [Munich] have players who can surprise anyone.

“What’s certain is that the club will do everything [to get there]. In 90 minutes at the Allianz Arena, anything can happen.

“The Allianz is a very difficult venue, but we’ll give everything in order to have a great game.

“The impression of the Olympics [in Brazil next year] is good. We’ll approach it with everything we’ve got.

“I want to win gold with the Selecao for the first time.”
