Former Milan star Gennaro Gattuso has joked that the only way to stop Lionel Messi is to give the Barcelona forward “the odd little kick”.
The Argentine played a starring role in La Blaugrana’a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday, scoring two late goals and teeing up Neymar for his side’s third, and the retired midfielder was typically unorthdox in his preventative measures.
“How to stop Messi as a Coach? I wouldn’t know… as a player, I’d perhaps man-mark him and give him the odd little kick?" he was quoted as saying by Marca.
Despite his Rossoneri past, Gattuso acknowledged Juventus’ representation of Italy in the Champions League semi-finals.
“Juventus are a source of pride for Italy. It’s good for Italian football that they’re back to make things right in Europe,” he concluded.
