Sergio savours Granada win

Espanyol Coach Sergio Gonzalez is still not thinking of his side’s prospects of a Europa League place despite the away win at Granada.

Los Periquitos are in the running for seventh and added another three points to their tally through goals from Sergio Garcia and Francisco Montanes, either side of a Diego Mainz equaliser.

“When the score was level they threw players forward in desperation and in the exchange suddenly we had the clearest options and we won,” Sergio said, AS reports.

“The goal was to take three points and we don’t put a ceiling on ourselves. The Europe issue is there but it’s in the distance.

“The sole purpose is to improve with every game, to evolve and to show our commitment.

“[Europe] is an issue I don’t value. The team is eager and wants to savour this win. Now we go for three points against Rayo Vallecano and we’ll see in the end if it is enough. We’re enjoying the moment.”

The fixture proved to be the last in charge for Abel Resino, who on Friday morning left Granada
