Franco: ‘We’ll compete with Barca’

Pablo Franco has vowed his Getafe players will compete with the big boys of Barcelona when the sides meet at the Camp Nou on Tuesday.

In fact, the 34-year-old admitted there were some players in his squad that are desperate to beat Barca so Real Madrid have a better chance of winning La Liga.

“To be honest there have been some comments in the dressing along those lines but we’re more concerned about our own situation,” Franco told a Press conference.

“It’s a difficult match but we’ll be going there to be competitive and make things as tough as possible for Barcelona.

“If things go for us and they don’t play well there’s no reason why we can’t get a positive result, although we know they are a fantastic team that is having a great run of form, almost the best they’ve been all season.

“We must adopt a responsible approach using our own style of play, with the odd fine-tuning or two.”

Franco is convinced El Geta have the necessary quality in defence to blunt the attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

“With the defensive qualities we’ve been showing of course we can stop their three frontmen.

“The other day we were watching videos that showed our team’s ability to concentrate, so we must use that to pay attention to detail and implement our carefully constructed game plan.

“There’s no reason why we can’t stop them,” he added.
