Alves set to say ‘yes’ to Barca

An agreement with defender Dani Alves for him to remain at Barcelona next season is understood to be imminent.

According to Cadena SER’s ‘El Partido de las 12’ programme, the Brazilian is set to give the green light to negotiations over a new contract after it was expected he would depart the Camp Nou at the end of this season.

The Brazilian is believed to have received offers from several of Europe’s clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, despite Barca boss Luis Enrique indicating he would like him to remain at the Camp Nou.

Recent reports have suggested that Alves, 31, was offered a 12-month agreement with an option for a further year, although the player and his agent, former wife Dinorah Santa Ana, were asking for a three-year contract.

However, it now appears he may have decided to remain in the Catalan capital for purely sporting reasons, given he is happy in the city and his two sons are growing up there.

The programme also noted that Alves still feels he is appreciated by the coaching staff at the club, while he is still one of the most popular members in the dressing room and is well-liked by his teammates.
