Agent plays down Mikel-Madrid link

John Obi Mikel’s agent has played down rumours linking the Chelsea midfielder with a move to Real Madrid this summer.

Stories have emerged, both in England and Spain, that Los Blancos are planning a swoop for the Nigeria international to replace Sami Khedira, who is widely expected to depart the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

However, the player’s representative John Shittu has refused to confirm or deny the reports and insists his player still has an ongoing contract with Chelsea.

“I can’t talk about anything regarding reports linking John with Real Madrid because he’s still a Chelsea player,” Shittu told SL10.ng.

Mikel, whose current agreement with the Londoners expires in June 2017, is also believed to have drawn interest from Schalke, while former Sweden star Martin Dahlin allegedly offered the Super Eagles star to Monaco in 2013, only for the deal to fall through.
