Alves apologises to Turks

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has apologised to his Turkish fans after posing for a photo in which he asked for recognition of the Armenian genocide.

On Friday the Brazilian was pictured holding a poster calling for recognition as it commemorated 100 years to the day since the incident, while he is understood to have been thanked by the Armenian embassy in Spain for the gesture.

However, reports Marca, it has upset some Turkish supporters and also caused embarrassment to Barcelona, who are sponsored by Turkish Airlines.

“I’d like to offer a million apologies to all my Turkish fans. I never thought the photo was going to cause so much offence. I have a lot of friends…” Alves posted on Twitter.
