Carragher on Hazard-Madrid link

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Chelsea must do everything within their power to keep Eden Hazard out of Real Madrid’s clutches.

Los Blancos’ reserve team Coach Zinedine Zidane this week spoke of his admiration for the 24-year-old winger, fuelling speculation that the Spanish giants could be set to launch a bid for him this summer.

Carragher, now a pundit with Sky Sports, believes too many Premier League stars have opted for Spain recently and feels the Belgian international will only get better under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

“We’ve lost too many players when you think of the likes of [Gareth] Bale, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and Xabi Alonso,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“When Real Madrid and Barcelona come in for one of your players it’s difficult to keep them because they are big clubs in a country with a lifestyle where players, particularly attacking players and foreign players, dream of playing one day.

“I certainly think Hazard is among the top six or seven in world football and there’s no doubt he’s a brilliant footballer.

“He’s a player you’d only expect to get better the more he works under Mourinho because he keeps on improving.”
