Andres Iniesta says talk of a Barcelona treble this season does not faze his teammates.
In an exclusive interview with Marca, the Barca midfielder went on to assess his team’s superb form of late, with Luis Enrique’s men sitting top of La Liga, through to the semi-finals of the Champions League and set to contest the final of the Copa del Rey next month.
“Talk of the treble doesn’t faze us because it’s good for the fans to be excited by their team and for us to be in a position where we can achieve it,” explained Iniesta.
“We have to take things step by step to get closer to winning trophies but it’s difficult to compare things to how they were when we did it in 2009, although it’s a good feeling.
“The team’s growth gives us certain guarantees so that we can continue believing in what we are doing, but the remaining matches are going to be vital. There’s a fine line between success and failure.”
Iniesta was asked if the fixture list for the run-in to the domestic title favoured Barca or Real Madrid.
“The fixture list is what it is and everything is decided at the end of it. If you haven’t picked up points earlier to be in this position it’s irrelevant as you have to take things as they come. We’ve done well so far to be in this situation.
“If we win the derby against Espanyol on Saturday it would mean we are one game closer and we’d remain top of the League.
“After that we’ve got Getafe at home and Cordoba away, which will be no less difficult,” he added.
