Paulo Dybala has dealt a blow to any potential suitors this summer by declaring he would like to remain in Serie A.

The Palermo striker has been linked with a summer move to a number of top European clubs, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, but appears to have decided it is in his best interests to stay put – at least for the time being.

“I love Italy, This is the country that made me famous and I would love to stay in Serie A,” the Argentine is quoted as saying by Sport.

“There are some big teams out there that don’t play in the Champions League and I can’t deny I’d love to play in Europe’s most prestigious competition.

“It’s a lot easier when you have a player like [Andrea] Pirlo behind you as he makes even the most difficult things look easy.”

Reports in Spain last week suggested that a middleman from Palermo, Gustavo Mascardi, had met with the Atletico Madrid hierarchy and that a deal could be imminent, while the player himself admitted two weeks ago that he could have played his last game for the club.
